Enel – Torrevaldaliga North Power Plant

Dearsenification plant serving the Enel power plant in Torre Valdaliga Nord. It consists of pressure filters in VTR.

Technology used

Adsorption onto granular ferric oxide-hydroxide. This filter medium has the ability to permanently bind arsenic through an adsorption process.
Fe(OH)3 + H3AsO4 -> FeAsO4 + 3H2O
Once bound, the arsenic is not released. Granular ferric hydroxide is able to retain arsenic with equal efficiency in both the oxidation states in which it occurs (arsenite and arsenate).
