Technology used
Adsorption onto granular ferric oxide-hydroxide. This filter medium has the ability to permanently bind arsenic through an adsorption process. It consists of pressure filters made of stainless steel.
Fe(OH)3 + H3AsO4 -> FeAsO4 + 3H2O
Once bound, the arsenic is not released. Granular ferric hydroxide is able to retain arsenic with equal efficiency in both the oxidation states in which it occurs (arsenite and arsenate).
The existing plant has been expanded with the addition of a new vessel made of AISI 304 stainless steel. The filter is managed by an independent logic unit that controls the motorised valves.
